About the Team
Our Finance team embodies the values of ZOE within an open, transparent and high-performing team. Current team members come with a wealth of experience in Start-ups, high growth, and transformational change. Looking into H1 2024 and beyond, key projects such as the selection and implementation of a new ERP, significant opportunity and appetite for process automation. Core to our performance is a collaborative approach across departments.
About the Role
In the role of Financial Controller, you will play a crucial role in our finance team, responsible for all elements of financial control with a broad remit overseeing day-to-day aspects of accounting and operational finance including period end close, payroll, purchase to pay, financial risk management, financial systems systems, team management and development.
You will work closely with the Financial Reporting Lead (who manages statutory reporting and the annual external audit), the FP&A Lead (who is responsible for management reporting, business planning, and business analysis), and the VP Finance, who is responsible for group finance, treasury, and investor relations. The core of your role is the day-to-day management of the financial accounting team, and process and systems improvements in financial accounting.

Working closely with the VP Finance, CFO and wider leadership team, you will be crafting and owning the financial control strategy and operations for a company which has a potential route to IPO in 5-7 years. You will be a significant contributor, and your role will evolve as the business remit expands.

You'll be

  • Monitoring and managing the day-to-day financial operations within the company, such as payroll, purchase to pay and other transactions. Leading period-end close processes.
  • Continuously improving financial accounting processes: Streamlining and improving all financial operations and systems. Implementing software solutions that improve quality and/or efficiency of financial processes. Developing all internal control policies and procedures in the company. Owning financial risk management and working alongside other senior leadership team members to create risk minimisation plans.
  • Managing our Accounting & Reporting team, supporting development of 3 team members
  • Supporting key financial processes: financial reporting covering monthly, quarterly, annual P&L, Balance Sheet and Cash flow reports. Supporting monthly and quarterly Tax reporting across the UK and US. Supporting year-end audit. Providing the foundations for the FP&A team to prepare the budget and multi-year business plan models, ensuring accuracy and alignment with strategic goals.

Key Skills required


  • Accounting fundamentals
  • ACA or ACCA qualified with experience in a fast growing start-up/scale up.
  • Deep knowledge of Xero and potential ERP options such as Netsuite. ERP experience and ERP implementation experience would be highly advantageous.
  • Experience with US financial reporting and tax administration.
  • Strong understanding of quality control methodologies to ensure data integrity and accuracy.
  • Track record of delivering against tight financial deadlines.
  • Quantitative analytical skills
  • Strong analytical, numerical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent Excel skills.
  • Data-savvy mindset, with experience in business intelligence tools (BI) being advantageous.
  • Excellent attention to detail, delivering high-quality work with minimal errors.

  • Business acumen and the ability to influence people at all levels.
  • Strong personal and communication skills
  • Proficient in process management, adhering to finance calendars and meeting deadlines. Emerging project management capabilities.
