RF Rectifier Engineer, Wireless Power Transmission (m/f/d)
Luxembourg (Onsite)•Full-time
Focus: TerraSpark is a venture-backed deep-tech company building space-based solar power. You will design and build the RF-to-DC conversion solutions that power TerraSpark's wireless power transmission (WPT) prototypes and future SBSP systems. This role owns RF-DC conversion and nonlinear circuit design (including MMIC implementations), from concept through simulation, prototyping, and test in a hardware-rich environment.
What you'll do:
- Design, simulate, and optimise RF-DC conversion circuits in the GHz range for WPT applications.
- Develop high-efficiency rectifiers using appropriate nonlinear optimisation techniques.
- Tackle matching, nonlinearity, and power-handling challenges to maximise RF-DC efficiency over realistic operating conditions.
- Analyse rectifier performance versus input power, load, and input impedance using both simulation and measurement, then feed results back into design iterations.
- Design rectifiers suitable for MMIC integration and work closely with MMIC designers on implementation details.
- Support lab validation by defining and running RF/DC measurement setups and iterating designs based on test results.
- Collaborate closely with the rectenna engineer and with RF, power electronics, controls, and mechanical colleagues to ensure robust end-to-end WPT links.
- Contribute to R&D on advanced rectenna concepts for full-scale SBSP systems, including rectenna field layout, material selection, design-for-manufacture, and integration with other uses.
What you bring:
- Degree in Electrical Engineering, RF/Microwave Engineering, Applied Physics, or a related field.
- Hands-on experience with high-efficiency RF-DC rectifiers and/or wireless power transmission systems, demonstrated through industrial products, prototypes, or research projects.
- Strong skills in nonlinear simulation and optimisation (e.g. harmonic balance, load-pull, impedance tuning).
- Experience with RF design tools such as HFSS, ADS, AWR, or similar.
- Solid understanding of impedance matching, nonlinear devices (such as Schottky diodes and HEMTs), and RF behaviour at high power.
- Experience with RF measurements and data-driven design iteration, including defining test setups and analysing measurement data.
- Drive to take initiative, own designs through build and test, collaborate with other engineers, and iterate rapidly in a fast-moving, hardware-focused environment.
