MMIC & Power Amplifier Engineer, Wireless Power Transmission (m/f/d)
Luxembourg, Netherlands or EU remote•Full-time
Focus: TerraSpark is a venture-backed deep-tech company building space-based solar power. You will lead the design and development of RF/microwave integrated circuits at the core of TerraSpark's wireless power transmission (WPT) demonstrators and future SBSP systems. You own the end-to-end MMIC design flow: architecture and simulation through tape-out, lab validation, and integration into high-power WPT transmit chains.
What you'll do:
- Design MMICs and RF/microwave circuits (power amplifiers, LNAs, mixers, phase shifters) and integrate them into our WPT demonstrators and products.
- Interface with foundry partners, prepare design kits and tape-out files, and manage the full MMIC development cycle from PDK evaluation to fabrication and delivery.
- Troubleshoot design issues, optimise performance, and ensure reliability and manufacturability of MMICs and RF power stages.
- Define and run RF and DC test setups (VNAs, spectrum analysers, power meters, load banks) to characterise circuit performance and feed results back into design iterations.
- Collaborate closely with RF, power electronics, controls, rectenna, and mechanical colleagues to ensure robust, efficient end-to-end WPT links.
- Contribute to R&D on advanced rectenna and RF front-end concepts for future SBSP systems, including design-for-manufacture and integration into large-scale rectenna fields.
What you bring:
- Degree in Electrical Engineering, RF/Microwave Engineering, or a related field.
- Proven, hands-on track record in MMIC and high-efficiency power amplifier design, demonstrated through industrial products, prototypes, or research projects.
- Strong proficiency with RF and MMIC CAD tools (e.g. AWR, ADS, Cadence, HFSS, or similar).
- Familiarity with III-V semiconductor technologies such as GaAs and GaN, and experience working with foundries and tape-out processes.
- Strong analytical skills and experience with RF test and measurement equipment (network analysers, spectrum analysers, power meters, etc.), including planning and executing measurements and using data to refine designs.
- Drive to take initiative, own designs from concept through build and test, collaborate with other engineers, and iterate rapidly in a hardware-rich environment.
