Space Systems Engineer, Concept Development (m/f/d)

Focus: Join the founding team shaping the future of Space-Based Solar Power (SBSP), where bold vision meets rapid execution. As our Space Systems Engineer, you'll architect breakthrough spacecraft and mission concepts, driving system-level design from the ground up.

What you'll do:

• Lead systems engineering for new SBSP spacecraft concepts from requirements to top-level architecture.
• Perform mission-level trade studies, subsystem integration analysis, and early performance modeling.
• Carry out risk assessments, mitigation planning, and support software tool development.
• Formulate system-level concept designs linking power, thermal, structural, and orbital trades.
• Prototype modular spacecraft elements and support early concept validation.
• Lead mission design for our first orbital test, including procurement and integration of a commercial spacecraft bus with our power-beaming payload.
• Present technical work clearly in documentation and stakeholder presentations.

What you bring:

• MSc or BSc in Physics, Aerospace Engineering, or related field.
• 3–5 years of experience in space systems engineering or mission concept design.
• Ability to generate new architectures grounded in solid engineering analysis.
• Experience with cost estimation, safety and reliability analysis, in-orbit operations, and orbital mechanics.
• Familiarity with regulatory compliance and V&V (verification & validation) planning.
• Strong system-level understanding connecting power, thermal, structural, and orbital domains.
• Experience in small teams and eagerness to take direct ownership.
• Passion for pioneering the future of space-based solar power.
